io "To marry none but Mary,
Your charming kitchen maid. Excuse me, my dear mistress, She has my heart betrayed."
11      Then in an angry humor
Away from me she ran, Resolved to be revenged Before it was ere long.
12     She being so perplexed
That she could not be my wife, She then did seek a project To take away my life.
13     One day as we were walking
All in the garden gay, The flowers they were blooming, Delightfully in May,
14     A gold ring from her finger,
As I was passing by, She slipped into my pocket; And for it I must die.
15     My mistress swore I'd robbed her;
Then quickly I was brought Before a grave old justice To answer for my fault.
16     Long time I pleaded innocent,
But it was of no avail; She swore so hard against me That I was put in jail.
